Previously… I talked about new things happening in my life. In order to say hello to what I want to do for the next 6 months of 2013, I had to take a look at what did and didn’t work in 2012. I took my “vacation week” to plan! Yes… I have heard several people say, including TDJakes: “time spent planning is never time wasted!”
I now have a plan for the first 6 months of 2013. The plan is in action… My plan, which I am sure will NOT work for you includes these different areas: (not in any particular order)
Career, Financial, Physical (Fitness), Family, Social, Spiritual and Intellectual.
Why my plan won’t work for you? Simple, it is MY plan for personal growth. You need to create your own plan with your objectives and your expected results. The phrase: “start with the end in mind…” fits perfectly here!
I tweeted earlier in the week that we need to understand our strengths and weaknesses. I am convinced that the more I learn about myself, two things happen: I grow more and it becomes easier to help other people. Let me replace the word help with INFLUENCE. This is my word for 2013. I want to influence others in a positive or negative way!
I might be crazy thinking about influence with a negative connotation, but really, if I get to make a change in the life of one person, then my goal has been achieved. Certainly I want to influence in a positive way more than anything, but the opposite might happen and I am actually “okay” with that as well.
Andy Stanley puts it this way:
You need to find out first who you want to become (strengths and weaknesses) before you can set what you want to do.
Who I am on the inside always finds its way on the outside. Our personal decisions impact everyone around us!
I want to leave you today with homework. Call it: “food for thought”. Author Paul Tripp explains:
Every day we lay little bricks on the foundation of what our life will be. The bricks of words said, the bricks of actions taken, the bricks of little decisions, the bricks of little thoughts, and the bricks of small-moment desires.
This is how I plan to influence… Little bites, little bricks… Every day we add something new, practice the old, but always with the end in mind!
