CarbonCopyCloner (CCC) Questions

carboncopyclonerWanted to have a post here on the blog to keep all my answers to the most commonly asked questions about my tutorials regarding CCC and how to make a clone of your MAC using CCC…

CCC Question 1

+ValSch1992 if you want it to be an exact clone and use it just for that purpose, yes… That’s my suggestion – it’s like having an exact drive that doesn’t get used other than: plugin for the clone process, and unplugged for storage (I use mine inside of the computer – so they are always plugged in, but that’s a different story!)…

Having that second hard drive is your own safety copy. Some think it is just an extra expense, and it is indeed… Until the day you spend about 12 to 24 hours getting everything back… Think about having to re-install all the operating system, all your settings, your programs and getting them ALL re-authorized…

When you take into consideration your hourly rate, say $15 an hour x 12 hours is $180, then the hard drive pays for itself. I know I will be running in 3 minutes by just switching hard drives… Yes, it has happened to me, too many times not to have a good CCC backup!

CCC Question 2

+ValSch1992 Yes, partitioning is a valid option, but it does require you to have more advanced knowledge in what you are doing. You must pay attention at the time of cloning your drive. If you BY MISTAKE happen to re-do the clone, not realizing it, you could erase your partitions on your destination drive and loose MORE data than you wanted to…
